The NTA works with Nebraska schools to introduce careers in the trucking industry. Our outreach team brings innovative, hands-on tools to help students experience truck driving and diesel technology. We also pair our experiences with safety presentations, helping student drivers learn the safest ways to share the road with commercial vehicles. We work with educators to meet needs of our schools where they are. We can participate in career fairs or spend a day (or more) with trade classes to illustrate the impact and importance of trucking and safety to students. Our program is flexible enough to meet the needs of schools/classes at any time.
The teaching of shop safety is important to establish a foundation of safe work practices and a safety attitude. Lessons in general shop safety will not eliminate all injuries but hopefully lessen the quantity and severity. The methodology of teaching shop safety encompasses guidelines and practices designed to prevent accidents, injuries, damage to equipment, and damage to projects. Whether you teach woodshop, metalshop, automotive, or any one of the multitude of trades, implementing the practice of assessing your shop safety instructional methodologies is important for the student as well as the teacher.
This session will discuss developing a "pattern of safety," communicate the need for proper documentation, identify effective methodologies for safety instruction, and reflect upon current practices.
Target audience: New teachers seeking information about developing a safe work environment for students and veteran teaches wanting to check their practice.
An advisory committee is a group of business, industry, community and school-related people who help you keep your program on track. With appropriate management, it can provide both guidance and support. This session will help you learn how to use your advisory committee to develop, design and deliver a quality program.
